Overview

Thumbora — YouTube Thumbnail Viewer is a Chrome extension developed by Oflox® that adds lightweight right-click tools on youtube.com to view, copy, or open publicly available thumbnail images for YouTube videos.

This extension does not download videos, audio, or any DRM-protected content. It only accesses publicly available thumbnail URLs that are already visible to users.

Data Collection

No personal data is collected, transmitted, or stored. Thumbora does not use analytics, advertising scripts, or any form of tracking. All processing happens locally in your browser.

How It Works

• Operates only on https://*.youtube.com/* pages.
• Identifies the clicked YouTube video ID and constructs a public image URL (e.g. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/<VIDEO_ID>/maxresdefault.jpg).
• Allows you to view or copy this URL locally; no data leaves your device.

Permissions Used

• contextMenus – Adds right-click options on YouTube pages.
• scripting – Injects a small local script to identify the selected video ID.
• tabs – Opens the thumbnail in a new tab when requested.
• clipboardWrite – Allows copying the thumbnail URL to clipboard.
• Host Permission: https://*.youtube.com/* – Ensures the extension works only on YouTube.

Third-Party Services

No external APIs, SDKs, or trackers are used. The extension does not communicate with any remote server and executes entirely within your browser.

Children’s Privacy

This extension does not target children and does not collect any data from users of any age.
